Capuchin Day Centre, Dublin Ireland. Every day the Capuchin Day Centre provides 400 meals for people who are homeless and each week 500 Food Parcels for those on the poverty threshold.

For almost forty years the Capuchin Day Centre, (run by the Irish Capuchin Franciscan Order) has been providing hot meals, food parcels, clothing and day care facilities for homeless and needy people, six days a week, completely free of charge. The Centre operates from the back of the Capuchin Friary in Church Street, Dublin 7.

The Centre was founded by Bro. Kevin Crowley in the late 1960’s as a Capuchin response to meet the needs of homeless people who called to the friary door seeking help with the simple objective ‘to relieve the hardship endured by homeless people'.  At that time there were seven hostels in the area, mostly for men, and the people had nowhere to go during the day until they were allowed back into the hostels in the evening.  From very humble beginnings of providing soup and sandwiches for about 50 people, we are now regarded as the biggest food centre in the city providing over 400 meals per day. Over the years we have accompanied the people and tried to respond to their ever changing needs.

In keeping with our Capuchin Franciscan ethos, we operate an 'Open Door' policy and ask no questions.  Other than for child protection and medical purposes, we keep no statistics and protect the privacy and anonymity of the people who attend the centre
